Module 3: Important Information for Non-Custodial Parents

Can I file for a modification of the court order?

You or the custodial parent can file a petition for a modification of the child support order if there is a significant change in circumstances since the original order was established. The court may consider all the relevant circumstances, including a change in your income or medical benefits, a change in custody of the child, or a change in the custodial parent's financial or child care situation.

If you lose your job, through no fault of your own, you must prove to the court that you have made good effort to look for a new job with similar pay and benefits.
